"The doctor of the future will no longer treat the human body with drugs, but rather will cure and prevent disease with nutrition."
— Thomas Edison

WHAT IS FUNCTIONAL NUTRITION, YOU MAY ASK?

It is a novel approach to healthcare.

Our current medical model doesn’t appreciate the value of nutrition. Integrative functional nutrition grew out of the frustration of the traditional medical model compartmentalizing health. This new model of health care looks at the entire body to diagnosis and cultivate a plan, not just concentrating on the disease alone. It doesn’t just focus on the different compartments of the body: the heart, the kidneys or any one organ. It looks at the body as one whole unit and utilizes the whole spectrum of healthcare. It utilizes an evidenced-based tool kit, which means it bases its healthcare plan on the latest research.

There is an abundance of research showing the positive changes that nutrition and lifestyle can make. It looks at body, mind and spirit. It looks at the person’s lifestyle, diet, genomics and the entire health history. It looks at life events, mental and physical health, emotion and socialization, quality of life and fatigue along with medical symptoms and conditions.

Inflammation is the underlying cause of most diseases, especially chronic diseases. Our standard American diet is considered very inflammatory. The number of obese people in this country is increasing drastically and obesity is considered one of the underlying contributing factors of disease, like cardiovascular disease, type 2 diabetes, dementia and hypertension. Research is showing positive changes that nutrition and lifestyle can make on cardiovascular disease, Type 2 diabetes, arthritic pain, IBS, obesity and dementia, among others.

In this day and age, it is prudent to take care of yourself, to be as healthy as you can, so that your immune system can fight off disease. We can help you develop a personal plan for you to achieve your optimum health.
